Breath in the smell of the sea and prepare to set sail on a new adventure with a white wine grown on vines only 15 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. This wine infuses the spirit of adventure to pay its respects to the country’s earliest explorers. Barco a Vela has intense aromas of tropical fruits with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and sunsets over the ocean horizon.
Meet The Winemaker
Winemaker Nuno Galvão loves to work with exotic grape varietals found in Portugal and beyond. He feels that these unique white varietals can make adventurous new blends. He often works with the varietal Fernao Pires which is among the most widely planted and popular white grapes Portugal has to offer. He also works with Moscatel which made its way to Portugal from the Middle East during the Roman Empire. Rounding out the trio of white varietals he uses in blends is the Seara Nova grape, a new variety brought to Portugal in 1951 by Leão Ferreira.

The Story Behind The Wine
Barco a Vela, which means “boat” in Portuguese, comes from Mundus Winery, a family-run, medium sized producer dedicated to preserving the legacies of Portuguese navigators of old. As early as the 1960s, Mundus rose to prominence as a premier wine exporter to the United States, England, Angola, and beyond. Today Mundus carries on like a trusty old ship that knows no boundaries when it comes to bringing great wine to people around the world.
