If Shakespeare taught us anything, it's that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. As it turns out, the same goes for grapes. Among the grapes varietals that you'll find in this award-winning Portuguese red blend is a grape known as "Aragonez" in Southern Portugal or also know as "Tinta Roriz" in Nothern Portugal. It is also the same varietal as Spain's "Tempranillo". Grown in a mixture of ample sunshine and cool ocean breezes, this smooth red blend contains intense red fruit aromas with hints of vanilla and cedar.

Meet The Winemaker
Winemaker Nuno Galvão loves to work with exotic grape varietals found in Portugal and beyond. He feels that these unique white varietals can make adventurous new blends. He often works with the varietal Fernao Pires which is among the most widely planted and popular white grapes Portugal has to offer. He also works with Moscatel which made its way to Portugal from the Middle East during the Roman Empire. Rounding out the trio of white varietals he uses in blends is the Seara Nova grape, a new variety brought to Portugal in 1951 by Leão Ferreira.

The Story Behind The Wine
Azul is an award-winning red blend named for the blue waves of the Atlantic ocean located just miles away from the Portuguese winery where it was created. Among the grapes you'll find in this medium-bodied treasure is a very fine varietal known as "Aragonez" in Southern Portugal. If you were to travel to the North, you might find it known as“Tinta Roriz” or called "Tempranillo” in Spain. Raised in the seaside air and aged for 4 months in American Oak Barrels, the odds are that you'll simply call it "delicious."
