Some would say Juan Alonso Cuesta was born with wine in his veins. Juan was born into a family with a long history of Spanish winemaking history. Juan has also been the president of his DOP region for the past 20 years. No stranger to how a quality wine should be crafted.
DOP is an abbreviation for Denominación de Origen Protegido which essentially means where the grapes were grown. The simplified version of this is calling it a wine appellation. Appellations are a very important part of the wine industry especially “Old World Wines.” If you haven’t heard this term before, wines made in France, Portugal, Italy, and Spain are referred to as Old World Wines. Wines made in the United States, Chile, Australia, and South Africa are known as “New World Wines.”
